ELECTION 2011
Why I'm a Candidate for the Green Party of Canada
My interest in the Greens started after living in Australia for a year in 2007. I was inspired by the inroads they were making and their overall message of social inclusiveness, environmental awareness and fiscal conservatism. Upon returning home, I joined both the Federal and Provincial Greens and in late 2008 found myself a Federal candidate parachuted into the neighbouring riding of Haliburton - Kawartha Lakes - Brock. My first foray into the political fray found me with no resources, volunteers or local EDA committee. As an unknown it was an obvious uphill battle, but after garnering 8.3% of the vote, I was convinced that people wanted a new choice and way of looking at politics. After the election, I became the Peterborough EDA CEO and now find myself once again a candidate. The policies espoused by the Greens are closely aligned to my personal and political philosophies and I feel deeply they are ideas that need to be shared with fellow Canadians.  Find out more about Michael at www.ElectMichaelBell.com
